GeForce 6600 Updated with DDR2

Tom's Hardware reports that NVidia updates its 6600:

NVIDIA has taken that same core and performed a bit of cosmetic surgery to produce an even faster version of their beloved 6600. The core upgrade was complimented with an upgrade of its own. While the original 6600 was equipped with GDDR1 on a 128 bit bus, NVIDIA has now paired the core with cheaper, yet faster, DDR2. [Tom's Hardware]

Key facts about the GeForce 6600 PCI Express with DDR2:

  • DirectX 9.0c Shader Model SM 3.0
  • Vertex shaders: 3
  • Pixel pipelines: 8
  • RAMDAC: 400MHz
  • Core clock speed: 400 MHz
  • Memory clock speed: 400 MHz (800 DDR)
  • Memory expansion: 256 MB
  • Memory technology: DDR2
  • Memory bus width: 128 bit

Those planning to get a regular 6600 PCIe should wait until your favorite display card maker puts the "new improved" models in retail stores.
