Via K8T900 Supports Dual Graphics Cards

ExtremeTech reports that Via Technologies has begun sampling its K8T900 chipset, incorporating support for dual graphics cards. The chipset, aimed for the AMD Athlon and Athlon FX line, will begin shipping 1Q 2006. The technology has also been optimized for upcoming 700-MHz S27 Chrome graphics cards, designed and manufactured by S3 graphics, a Via subsidiary.

The VIA K8T900 chipset continues a strong path of support for all market segments of the AMD platform," said Chewei Lin, vice president of product marketing for Via, in a statement. "VIA's high performance RapidFire™ technology, combined with dual x8 PCI Express graphics connections, makes VIA K8T900 an unbeatable platform for the enthusiast community delivering high levels of performance, a premium feature set, and unparalleled stability and compatibility. I guess support for the Socket M2 processors is still on second priority for Via (and probably for the other chipset makers). Of course, this is definitely good news for enthusiasts because S3 Graphics will also be releasing dual-ready PCIe graphics cards (like SLI, Crossfire). This should bring prices down for everybody.
