Digitimes reports that there are rumors about the possible consolidation of MSI and Gigabyte.
Following the formation of a strategic alliance between Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Tatung, and the purchase of Abit Computer's motherboard division by Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), industry players are concerned about a potential merger between Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology, and further possible consolidation involving second-tier player Diamond Flower International (DFI), according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. From my point of view as a consumer, less brands usually translates to higher prices. On the other hand, this rumored merger could also result in more product models to be offered, thus giving the consumer more choices. Well, I guess we will see what happens as things develop.
