ExtremeTech tests the AMD Phenom 9600 on overclocking.
The test setup used was:
- motherboard: ASUS M3A32-MVP/Wi-Fi Edition
- processor: AMD Phenom 9600 Black Edition
- memory: 2GB Corsair
- graphics: AMD ATI Radeon HD 3870
- OS: Windows Vista Ultimate
"Even on a full-blown Spider platform, as an overclocking chip the Phenom 9600 isn't very impressive. It's not extremely heat efficient, causing it to challenge even a very good air cooler. ... Worse, it's very picky about its frequency. In our attempts to overclock the chip, we couldn't budge the quad-pumped base frequency from 200MHz without the system protesting and requiring BIOS resets; we could merely tweak the multiplier and up the chip's frequency to compensate." [ExtremeTech]
Hmm. The Phenom 9600 might not be very OC friendly.
