abit IX38 QuadGT Mainboard Reviewed

box imgThe abit IX38 QuadGT motherboard (~US$337) gets a thorough review at X-bit Labs. The IX38 QuadGT features the Intel X38 Express / ICH9R chipset, Intel Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quad processors with 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz FSB, 4 x DDR2 1066/800/667 memory sockets, HDMI audio ready header, 2 x PCI-E X16 slots with PCI Express 2.0 support, 1 x PCI-E X16 slot, 6 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors, IEEE1394, 2 x eSATA, and abit Silent OTES Technology.

"... abit IX38 QuadGT mainboard is based on a new Intel X38 Express chipset, but its advantages are not that evident. They may matter more in the future, but higher price and higher heat dissipation do matter now already. We got a new cooling system, but its design is questionable and its cooling efficiency may be insufficient in some cases. ... we have to stress, though, that despite a few things we wish had been better, it is an excellent product. It boasts remarkable features and functionality, overclocks processors quickly and easily. It is a good board, which will hopefully become better with the time." [X-bit Labs]
