Intel Celeron E1200 Dual Core Reviewed

celeron dc logoX-bit Labs reviews the Intel Celeron E1200 (U$53). It features the Allendale core, 1.6GHz frequency, 800MHz bus, 512KB L2, and 65 nm manufacturing process. It is very similar to the Pentium Dual Core, but with just half the L2 cache.

"... we can't proclaim the new Celeron E1200 the best choice in its price segment. The thing is that dual-core AMD processors priced the same provide higher performance. Athlon 64 X2 4000+ outperformed Celeron E1200 in our tests in all tasks except those dealing with image and video processing that are not sensitive to L2 cache size." [X-bit Labs]

As X-bit says, at the $50 (or so) price point, the AMD 64 X2 4000+ would be a better choice. If you really would like to build a new budget PC based on an Intel processor, the Pentium Dual Core would probably be worth the extra $11 bucks. This could change, however, as other Celeron Dual-Core models get released in the market.
