Best Midrange Graphics Card?

msi imgUnless you have the dough to shell out US$600 for a graphics card, chances are, you are interested in finding out what the current best bang per buck midrange graphics card is.

ExtremeTech tests 3 sub-$250 and 4 sub-$350 midrange graphics cards, and finds out which has the best price/performance ratio.

"For DirectX 9 performance, the X1950 Pro is the clear winner, especially if you don't plan on playing any DX10 games when they start trickling to market. ... If you're looking for the price/performance ratio's sweet spot, this is it. We recommend the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC, or, even more so, the MSI NX8800GTS, which earned our coveted ExtremeTech Approved seal of approval." [ExtremeTech]

So the clear winner is a GeForce 8800 GTS card from MSI. And if you are not expecting to play any DirectX 10 games in the future, a Radeon X1950 Pro card trumps the GeForce 8600 GTS cards.
