Tom's Hardware compiles its shortlist of gaming video cards that would give gamers the most for their money.
"Complex video card specifications and reviews are great if you have the time to do the necessary research. At the end of the day, however, what gamers really need is simply to get the best video cards that their money can buy. So, if you don't have the time to research and assess all the benchmarks, or if you don't feel confident enough in your ability to make the right decision, fear not! We at Tom's Hardware Guide have come to your aid, with a simple list of the best gaming cards available." [The Best Gaming Video Cards for the Money: January 2007 - Tom's Hardware]
At the most inexpensive end of the list are the Geforce 7600 GS and Radeon X1650 PRO, listed at under US$100. And for around US$25 more, one could get the Geforce 7600 GT or Radeon X1800 GTO. Note that all four cards feature 12 Pixel Shaders. If you do graphics card overclocking, the Radeon X1800 GTO would be a nice card to get.
At the most expensive end are the Geforce 8800 GTX (~US$590), Geforce 8800 GTS (~US$420), and Radeon X1950 XT (~US$260). Thinking of SLI or Crossfire? It would be more "economical" and result in better performance to just get the Geforce 8800 GTS, instead of two Radeon X1950 XT cards, or even two 7900 GS cards.
