THG's VGA Charts VIII: PCI Express Winter 2005

THG picTom's Hardware Guide posts its VGA Charts VIII: PCI Express Winter 2005 article.

In all, we have assembled a field of 25 candidates using the PCI Express interface. Of those, 21 are single-board solutions while the remaining four are SLI configurations. Cards range from the GeForce FX 5900 and the Radeon X600 to today's high-end cards such as the GeForce 7800 GTX and the Radeon X1800 XT with its 512 MB of video memory. All of these cards can be compared across 50 charts detailing the results of seven benchmarks run at various screen resolutions and different quality settings. [Tom's Hardware Guide]

Judging from the Single Card vs. Dual Card SLI comparisons, gamers should really consider getting a 7800 GTX, or at least a GF 7 series card. A single 7800 GTX is still faster than two 6800 GTs in SLI, and sometimes even faster than two 6800 Ultras in SLI.

Looking at the Upgrade Matrix Table, the 6600 GT looks to be the best buy, considering its price differences from the 6600 and 6800. Sadly, the recently released 6800 GS is not included in the article.
